Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator

Beth David B’nai Israel Beth Am, an Egalitarian Conservative Synagogue located near Bathurst & Sheppard in Toronto, is hiring a Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator. 

Job Description
Programming

  • Plan, promote and deliver minimum one monthly program for each of: Yedidim (grades 1-5), Kadima (grades 6-8) and United Synagogue Youth (USY) (grades 9-12)
  • Assist in running and supervising occasional Kadima and USY overnight Shabbatons and conventions (up to 3 per year, following COVID-19 guidelines)
  • Engage and coordinate teen volunteers, including managing the USY leadership
  • Support Clergy and staff in promoting and managing youth programs and engagement
  • Plan, promote and deliver Shabbat programs for youth and teens in pre-school, grades 1-5, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12
  • Work with our volunteers and staff to coordinate the youth and teen components of Beth David’s holiday programs
  • Manage social network profiles for youth and teen accounts

B’nai/B’not Mitzvah Group Program

  • Communication and coordination with our partner this year - Beth Tikvah
  • Communication coordination with service providers for the outsourced programs
  • Communication with Beth David B'nai/B'not Mitzvah and their parents
  • Promotion and communication via social media
  • Presence/attendance at all program (6-7 from January through June, 2021)

B'nai/B'not Mitzvah Family Events

  • Oversee logistics for all B’nai Mitzvah Family celebrations 
  • Coordinate and manage all rental bookings within the facility 
  • Communication with parents regarding the order of the service and in-person rehearsals

Hebrew School

  • Manage the current Zoom activity on Monday evenings 5:30-7:00 PM - availability from 5:00 PM - greeting staff and students, organizing and managing breakout rooms
  • Run occasional 15-20 minute activity when shinshiniyot (pre-army Israeli emissaries) are not present to offer their weekly activity
  • Administer an in-person version if and when that becomes a reality
  • Promotion and Communication via email, phone and social media

Teens Program

  • Communication and coordination with our partner this year - Beth Tikvah
  • Communication with Beth David participants
  • Promotion and communication via social media
  • Presence/attendance at all program (6 from January through June, 2021)
  • Monitoring of Beth David participant attendance for grant eligibility

Shul-Wide

  • Run back-end of Zoom and online programming
  • Assist with in-person programming and event set-up and breakdown
  • Coordinate shul-wide deliveries and pick-ups 
  • Run Beth David’s social media pages

Admin

  • Tracking of mourners during the first year - funeral, shiva, sh'loshim, 11 months, 1st yahrzeit observance and communication with /notification to clergy
  • Occasional support for Ritual Director regarding B’nai Mitzvah lessons and scheduling

Skills/Education

  • Experience working in Jewish community organizations and/or with Jewish youth and teens
  • Experience working with children, youth and teens in informal education settings such as after-school programs, summer camp, synagogue youth programming, etc.
  • Strong leadership and organization skills, the ability to communicate effectively with children, youth, teens, parents, and synagogue staff, and be able to work both independently and as a team member
  • Knowledge of Jewish tradition 
  • Proficient in social media and online networking (Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, etc…)
