BETH DAVID CODE OF CONDUCT

BETH DAVID CODE OF CONDUCT

ואהבת לרעך כמוך
Ve-Ahavta Le-Re’eha C’mocha

Love your neighbour as yourself

Beth David B’nai Israel Beth Am is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue that strives to be inclusive and create a safe, comfortable and welcoming place for all.

We are a congregation that advocates for tolerance, kindness, inclusivity and peace. We encourage everyone to participate, learn and grow. We honour the lives and memory of the founders of our congregation, some of whom survived the Shoah.

 We expect everyone who visits our synagogue and everyone who participates in our community, or communicates with our     community in person or virtually, to conduct themselves in accordance with the following principles:

  • Uphold Jewish values including fairness and mutual respect for everyone including members, staff and clergy;
  • Preserve the dignity and decorum of the synagogue;
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of everyone equally without regard to age, gender, disability, race, religion, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, marital status, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief;
  • Refrain from offensive, disrespectful or hurtful language and behaviour, including harassment, abuse, verbal or physical intimidation, offensive humour, sexual innuendo, or inappropriate physical contact;
  • Ensure respectful debate and engagement and keep disagreements to principles and priorities, not personalities; and avoid bullying and threatening conduct;
  • Uphold a safe and welcoming environment, in which each person feels seen, heard, valued and encouraged to bring and express their whole selves, and in which boundaries, privacy and expertise are respected;

 We expect contraventions to this code to be rare. If it is felt that one has taken place, we ask that it be reported as soon as possible to Beth David leadership. Where possible, an amicable resolution will be sought.

 If a matter cannot be resolved, Beth David reserves the right, in keeping with its by- laws to terminate membership and/or   refuse participation in our community.
