7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

THE RAVINE: A FAMILY, A PHOTOGRAPH, A HOLOCAUST MASSACRE REVEALED
IN CONVERSATION WITH WENDY LOWER

Dr. Wendy Lower’s newest book, The Ravine: A Family, a Photograph, a Holocaust Massacre Revealed, takes the reader through the discovery process of a single massacre in the small town of Miropol, Ukraine. Through a set of photographs, Lowers dispels the myth that Nazis were the only perpetrators of the Holocaust and brings to light the millions of Jews who were not sent to gas chambers but shot in the forests near their homes. Cora Miller and Dr. Lower will engage in a conversation of the book, discussing themes of photo analysis, microhistories, research as a form of memorialization, and reframing narratives of the Holocaust to focus on neighbors, family and all who were in involved down to the photographer taking the photos.

Presented in partnership with Beth David B’nai Israel Beth Am.
