7:30 PM - 9:00 PMYom HaShoah marks the start of an emotional roller coaster in Israeli society because over the following seven days, not only do Israelis commemorate the Holocaust, they also commemorate Remembrance Day. As the clock winds down to the end of Yom HaZikaron, Israelis ready themselves to celebrate their independence on Yom Ha'atzmaut.
This session explores how different Israeli cartoonists have marked these seminal days in recent years in order to reveal the complex ways that Israelis are thinking about their own society. By studying how Israelis are approaching these important days on the calendar, we, in the diaspora, can also approach the days with new insight and understanding so that our commemorations and celebrations this year are more meaningful than ever.
